What can players expect at tryouts?

Players will be put through drills that assess their serving, underhand passing, setting, attacking and overall ball control. Tartan Juniors looks for players that are willing to learn and try new things to improve their volleyball skills.

What do my program fees cover?

100% of Tartan juniors’ player fees go toward the operational expense of club teams. Those expenses include but are not limited to:

·        NCR Player Registration and Membership

·        Apparel package

·        Equipment

·        Facility rental for practices - Please note that Carver Gym rental fees have increased this year.

·        Tournament entry fees

·        Coaches’ salaries and training

·        Administrative expenses

·        Office supply expenses

Will a 2-payment plan be available?

Yes. You can make your payment at the parent meeting with two checks. Half the amount is due on the day of the parent meeting. You will also be required to turn in a check, post-dated for January 15, 2018, at that time.

I know this is a traveling volleyball team. Where do you travel to? Where would the farthest tournament be?

Each coach sets their tournament schedule. There are tournaments every weekend that the coach can pick from all over the twin cities and Minnesota. The majority of the tournaments would average within 25 minutes or so of Oakdale, but they can extend further. For the 13s-16s teams, there are generally 1 or 2 travel tournaments during the season. Typical locations include, Duluth, Mankato and Rochester. Teams can also elect to participate in additional tournaments during the season, at additional cost. Your coach will talk through these options during the parent meeting.

It looks like there would be 2 practices a week.  Are there games during the week too or are the games just on the weekends during the tournaments?

Games (or matches) are only played on the weekends. The majority of the tournaments will be single day.  A single day tournament will have anywhere from 3-6 matches in a day depending on how team performs throughout the day. Practices are during the week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

What does 11's and 12s team's season entail?

For our 11's and 12s teams the season will run from December through February (the exact end date will be determined by the tournament schedule).

Our hope for this team is for it to be an introduction to JO volleyball where players can expand their individual and team volleyball skills in a fun and competitive environment on a team of 12 girls.

What does 13-17's team's season entail?

For our 13-18's team, the season will run from the beginning of December through April. Practices will run twice a week. The teams will play in approximately 6-8 tournaments throughout the season. We are hoping to have 10-11 girls on each team. Coaches will move beyond the basics to improve players' individual and team skills. This year we will be forming a 17s Elite team. Please see the info on this team on our home page.

Will teams be made at every level?

The number of teams cannot be fully determined until tryouts are completed. There is a possibility that if not enough players tryout at a certain age level, a "combo" team could be created.

Can my daughter tryout at a higher age level?

We encourage each player to tryout at your correct age level. If it is determined that a player should be playing up, that player may be moved. If you played on a team last season at a higher level, you may choose to tryout at that level again, but if you do not make a that team, you will not be moved down.
